More about Katie

I can remember all throughout my childhood falling in love with making my spaces just right.  At thirteen that meant painting my entire bedroom in blue, lime green, and turquoise stripes, and then again at fifteen repainting it all to a burnt orange (a seemingly much better choice at the time). I’ve always had a love for getting my spaces just right, and making them equally functional and organized as they are pretty. I never thought of being a designer as a “practical job”, so I just kept it as a part-time hobby and labeled myself as a “design enthusiast”. I worked as a Spanish teacher at Mary Persons High School in Forsyth, GA for about 5 years before my parents got a wild hair and opened up a bakery and retail store called Old Mill Market Company. So I quit my stable job teaching and decided to dive into the family business for which I had ZERO qualifications…. However, it has been an exciting and beautiful journey ever since that leap of faith!

After helping them start up this business and working as the store manager, I decided to lean into my lifelong dream of being an interior designer. From my experience as store manager, I completed several design projects, learned about starting and managing a small business, and cultivated several business relationships with large national vendors, local artisans, and craftsmen for custom design projects. So here I am, with Home Hearted Design Co, following my dream and staying true to my roots. My heart has always been at home, and my prayer for this business is to help all of my clients find true joy and comfort in their homes.

"Helping people transform their homes into beautiful, functional spaces that cultivate relationships and bring joy to their everyday lives."
